For owners, estates and their advisers

A company's records can be licensed to AI developers. FirmLedge runs the sale.

AI developers now pay to license real companies' de-identified records, email and documents, including those of companies that have closed. FirmLedge works out what survives and who controls it, describes the records to several buyers without naming the company, and shows the owner or estate every proposal before anything is decided.

The assessment needs no files and is not a valuation or an offer. Founded by Andrew Gallagher in Chicago. About

Owners, estates and advisers

I hold or administer a company's records.

  • For owners of companies that are closing, closed or sold, and operating companies case by case.
  • For estates: trustees, receivers, assignees, liquidating trustees and their counsel, with a two-minute fit check.

AI developers and data research companies

I buy records.

Records from companies whose owner or estate has approved the approach, described to you first without the company's name, with approvals and de-identification coordinated with the source's advisers.

How a sale runs

Four stages, and nothing moves without your approval.

The same order for an owner and an estate, with any court, lender or creditor approval your counsel says applies.

01

Control and systems

What survives, and who can authorize a license. No files first.

02

Assessment and unnamed profile

The assessment, then an unnamed profile to buyers.

03

Proposals side by side

Each in one format, with our compensation disclosed.

04

Decision, de-identification, license

You decide; de-identification precedes approved use.

The first step

A one-page records assessment, prepared for you.

For an estate, we prepare it from the docket, notices and public filings; for a company outside a court process, from your description. It sets out what the record shows, what the records likely include, who is asking for them, how a license would run, what stays out and who pays FirmLedge.

It is prepared at no charge. It is not a valuation and not an offer, and it is for the file either way. You get an initial reply within two business days, and the assessment within five business days of a description we can work from, or a note on what is missing.
